We do our best not only for achieving the goal of fulfilling of our corporate social responsibility, but also for becoming a "responsible social organization".
Our efforts to establish farming operations began in 2005, and we obtained the Farming License in 2011. This makes us a company that is, in fact, a farmer itself. As of January 2023, our company employs a total of 40 people, including 28 food engineers and 12 graduates from fields related with agriculture. As a key player in the agriculture-based industry, we are ranked as the 7th largest food and beverage company and the 11th largest fast-moving consumer goods company in Türkiye, according to the Nielsen Retail Report for 2024.
We supply all of the agricultural ingredients of our products from Türkiye. Our agricultural product procurement amounts to 6.5 billion Turkish Liras annually. In particular, for raki, grapes and anise must be obtained from and grown in Türkiye as per the Geographical Indication. For wine production, we make use of our wine grapes, which we obtain from our own vineyards of 55 hectares located in Sarkoy and Elazig. We also receive a partial supply of grapes from our contracted farmers in our country.
After seven years of collaboration with Ege University, three new aniseed varieties were developed and registered under the names 'Yeni 37,' 'Ege 53,' and 'Altın 8. These seeds are the first commercially registered aniseeds in Türkiye. Moreover, efforts to develop new varieties and enhance quality continue as part of this project. Each year, approximately 10-12 tons of seeds are produced and distributed to farmers through our suppliers. The harvested aniseeds are used in raki production.
Our agricultural sourcing includes wheat, grapes for suma production, grapes for winemaking, raisins, and aniseed. Our procurement processes are primarily conducted through our suppliers, reaching approximately 25,000-30,000 producers. We source 10% of our grapes from Central Anatolia, 35% from the Aegean Region, 10% from Thrace, and 45% from Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.
As part of the 'New Generation Farming' project, we ensure equal pay for equal work by guaranteeing that women receive the same wages as men. Since 2018, we have been providing diesel and fertilizer aid to help remedy the decline in grape production in Elazig and Diyarbakir. We provide technical support to vineyards from pruning to harvesting, along with financial aid and training for our farmers. Using meteorological data stations in Sarkoy and Elazig, we monitor the impact of climate on raw materials and contribute to quality cultivation.
After the studies carried out by 16 expert tasters from 3 cities in collaboration with the Food Engineering Department of Cukurova University, the Raki Sensory Wheel was developed. This wheel acts as a glossary, defining the sensory attributes of raki and categorizing them. It consists of 4 tiers that can be read from the inside out or vice versa. The innermost tier includes the primary categories based on the raw material and production method (anise, suma, aging and distillation in still). The second tier indicates the sensory analysis attributes (appearance, aroma, flavor and mouthfeel). The third tier categorizes the primary groups of detailed descriptors (spicy, aniseed, sweet). The outermost tier lists specific sensory descriptors.
