Learning For Life

Samandağ Gastronomy Village

The Samandağ Gastronomy Village project is a powerful example of solidarity, brought to life by Diageo Türkiye in partnership with the Foundation for the Support of Women's Work (Oxfam KEDV), the Samandağ Women's Cooperative, and the Samandağ Municipality. Launched in the aftermath of the devastating Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the project seeks not only to rebuild the Samandağ Gastronomy Village, but also to revive the region through the strength and creativity of women.

Since May 2024, as part of the Learning for Life programme, women from the community have been taking part in training sessions in hospitality, accommodation, culinary apprenticeships, and hygiene. So far, more than 250 women have benefited – each gaining new skills, confidence, and opportunities for the future.

By the last quarter of 2025, the Samandağ Gastronomy Village is expected to open its doors. It will welcome visitors with restaurants and guesthouses, and offer shelves filled with local products crafted by women. Beyond creating a destination, the project aims to help women achieve economic independence and unlock the region's tourism potential – turning resilience into lasting progress.

Learning for Life

Learning for Life is one of Diageo's most impactful global community programmes. Operating in more than 180 countries, it equips people who have faced barriers to education and employment with vital skills for the hospitality and tourism industry.

By enhancing employability, improving livelihoods, and supporting local economies, Learning for Life also contributes to building a more inclusive and resilient hospitality sector. Delivered in collaboration with local authorities, educational institutions, and civil society organisations, the programme helps individuals unlock their potential while fostering the growth of the communities they are part of.

Launched in Latin America in 2008, Learning for Life has since expanded across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. To date, it has provided training opportunities to more than 200,000 people, opening doors to new skills, jobs, and brighter futures.
